A Message from the Principal

Principal's Weekly Message

November 19, 2021

Dear PS 64 Families,

I would be remiss if I did not begin this week by sharing the joyful news of our very own Ms. Pam Rosen exchanging vows with Mr. Jared Daniels last Saturday.  Congratulations, Ms. Rosen, and many blessings to you and Jared on this new and exciting chapter in your lives.

Mission accomplished!  Through the goodness of our friends at the Knights of Columbus DeSoto Council #327, of which I am a proud member and Past Grand Knight, we were able to provide Thanksgiving turkeys to 101 PS 64 families.  It’s hard to believe that we started this tradition six years ago with just 20 turkeys.   Indeed, we are truly blessed to have such good friends at the Knights of Columbus.  Thanks to all who have sent emails of appreciation.  I will be sure to forward to the Knights.  Shall we aim for 125 next year?

On Monday we welcome the pop-up vaccination crew to our building community.  This is a direct result of the incredible demand we had the first time around.  The pop-up site will be here from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and it is our hope that we will not have to turn anyone away this time.  Students aged 5-11 are eligible for the vaccine and the $100 incentive.    Attached please find the forms in English, Spanish and Chinese.  Hard copies will be sent home today via backpack.

I am pleased to report that the youth officers from the 9th Precinct were able to join us this morning at our November PTA meeting.  Thank you Officers Mcleod and Rafferty for your service to our community.

All NYC public schools will be closed on Thursday, November 25, and Friday, November 26, in observance of Thanksgiving.   Classes resume on Monday, November 29.  Let us give thanks for all good gifts around us.  And, especially, as we come to the end of the month of November where we remember our family and friends who have gone before us, let us give thanks for their memories and how they have shaped, like my dad, the people we are today.

Deo gratias,

Marlon L. Hosang
